The only thing connecting Barreiro to the outside world is the intercity ferry that connects with Lisbon. For expats and tourists, Barreiro is not a hugely attractive destination. The town has little in the way of coworking spaces and lacks much of the nearby Lisbon glamour. The town does face the Tagus River, with a stunning view of Lisbon’s skyline.
Most surfers would probably overlook the area. You may not believe it, but a small surfing culture does exist here. Local surfers take to the river, in the hopes of catches the small waves created by passing ferries. Property prices around Barreiro are much cheaper than average Lisbon prices. This makes Barreiro worth considering if you’re struggling to find affordable accommodation within Lisbon.
