Narrow cobbled paths, clean washing draped from windows, and angular sunlight squeezing through the streets. Santa Maria Maior is a charming neighborhood and provides many with a traditional impression of Lisbon living. This appeal has drawn mass tourism to the area, with Airbnb’s monopolizing the area.
House pieces have risen exponentially in Santa Maria Maior. But the experience of living in this cultural hotspot continues to draw expats and digital nomads alike. Unlike many neighbourhoods of Lisbon, you’ll have access to a ferry, which takes passengers from Terreiro do Paço to Barreiro.

For me Alfama it's one charming, poetic and beautiful neighborhood specially in the area of the flea market and National Phanteon but everyone like diferent things. I wouldn't change for anything. - Hugo, April 2020
I’m in Mouraria and I love it. It’s not far from Intendente and there are some shady looking characters around but they usually break into a large smile when you get near. But maybe not so family friendly if you have young kids. - Rosa, August 2020
