Chiado is the bohemian twin of the adjacent Bairro Alto neighbourhood. Chiado has blossomed in the wake of the fire that took place in 1998. Many consider the Chiado neighbourhood as Lisbon’s answer to the Montmartre district of Paris.
The easiest way to get in and out of Chiado is via the tram lines that connect the neighbourhood to the rest of the city. Being so centrally located, a short walk would also take you to many of Lisbon’s hotspots.
Chiado’s central location and proximity to popular districts like Bairro Alto have resulted in Chiado becoming one of Lisbon’s most expensive neighbourhoods for acquiring property.
